Ministerial Consultation - Colombo


First Labour Migration Ministerial Consultation for Countries of Origin in Asia

The First Labour Migration Ministerial Consultation for Countries of Origin in Asian was held on April 1 and 2, 2003 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and hosted by its government.

 

The aim of the Ministerial Consultation was to provide a forum for Asian labour sending countries to share experiences, discuss issues and identify steps for follow-up in the form of recommendations.


Participants from the main sending countries in Asia, namely Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam were invited. Each of the country delegations comprised of the Minister responsible for foreign employment in the respective country or a high level representative, and two or more senior government officials. ILO and other resource persons were invited to participate and offer their expertise.
